Small Group Opportunities

The following groups are continuing/resuming their regular sessions and welcome new members:

·        Monday night Bible study at 7:00 p.m. in room 16.

·        Tuesday morning Men’s Prayer Group at 6:00 a.m. in the balcony classroom.

·        Tuesday evening Women’s Study in the west parlor from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

The group resumes on Jan. 11th for the Beth Moore study, Believing God: Experiencing a Fresh Explosion of Faith. The study encourages women to deepen their own trust in God. Do you believe God or simply believe in God?

The group welcomes new members and is anxious to have you join them. You’ll do some work on your own during the week and then meet to watch a video and discuss the chapter you’ve read.  Prospective members should contact Sue Bell to reserve a book.

·        Wednesday morning Men’s Study meets at 6:00 a.m. in the east parlor for a light breakfast, study, and prayer.

·        Wednesday morning Women’s Study meets in room 16 from 9:30-11:00 a.m. On January 5, the group starts a study called A Mile in Her Shoes. Life in ancient times was a struggle for survival, many times removed from the relaxed, comfortable existence most of us enjoy today. For women especially, simply living often meant enduring a harsh society that viewed women as voiceless entities, more like property than persons.  Still faith blossomed and thrived. Come and explore the bold, inspirational lives of some Old Testament women.  New members welcome!  Contact Linda Reynolds to reserve a book.

·        The Brown Bag Bible Study will resume meeting on Thursdays starting January 6 in the west parlor.  Bring your lunch around 11:30 and start this new study.  The group will be using John Ortberg’s book, Pursuing Spiritual Authenticity. Does God really speak to people? Can we still hear his voice and follow his leading in a way that will bring transformation to our lives? Do the words of God connect in a way that will penetrate the human heart and shape us into all we hope and dream we can become? Finding the answer to these questions from the words of the prophets can lead you to new spiritual maturity.

·        The Saturday morning men’s group meets alternate weeks at The North point Restaurant in the Marc’s Plaza at 7:00 a.m.  Contact person is Kim Reynolds.

NEW GROUPS BEGIN

The following new study groups will begin the week of January 9th

·        Are you looking for an afternoon Bible study so that you don’t have to come out on these dark winter nights?  Beginning Tuesday, January 11th at 2:00 p.m. in room 8 (through March 8th), Michael Krigline will lead a study of Matthew called Closer to Jesus.  Without Jesus, Christianity is just one of many “world religions.” Bring your Bible and walk through the book of Matthew to rediscover and grow closer to our unparalleled Savior, Redeemer and Friend.  This class will be repeated at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday evenings.

WENDESDAY EVENING GROUPS – ALL START AT 6:30 P.M.

·        A new Financial Peace University will begin Wednesday night, January 12 in room 8. You can come for dinner at 6:00 (for $3) and then stay for the class until 8:00. The $100 cost is discounted to $65 for participants. This is a life-changing program that teaches how to make the right decisions with your money and empowers you with the practical skills and confidence needed to achieve financial goals and experience true financial peace. The average family pays off $5,300 in debt and saves $2,700 in the first three months of this program.  You will NOT share your personal financial information. Childcare provided.

·        Christian Parenting in Today’s World is a new offering on Wednesday nights in the west parlor.  Once again, come for dinner (Jan. 12-March 23) at 6:00 p.m. and then go to the class from 6:30-8:00.  A family of 4 can have dinner and programming for 11 weeks for $75. The class is aimed at families of preschool and elementary children. It will be facilitated by veteran educators Laura Luikart and Ann Dixon. We anticipate a time of presentation followed by discussion.  Children will be in the nursery or attending the FW Friends program.  We’ll be using material by dr. Kevin Leman called Making Children Mind Without Losing Yours: How to Bring Out the Best in Your Kids.

·        Living the Questions – Part 2 will also be on Wednesday nights at 6:30 p.m. beginning Jan. 12 in room 16.  This study, a revised version of Living the Questions with additional themes, aims to create an environment where participants can interact with one another in exploring what’s next for Christianity. The 20 minute video segments include conversations with the leading voices of faith, sermon and lecture clips, digital stories illustrating aspects of an evolving faith, and concrete spiritual practices and disciplines.  Rev. Jay Althouse will facilitate.
